Steven Lang is a chef…an audio chef. He whips up a killer full course creative meal as a both a copy writer and producer.
Over the years, Steven and I have become great friends. I’ve enjoyed watching his amazing wife belly dance and kick cancer’s ass. His daughter is a dynamo, and I love running into her at the school our children attend.
In 1994, he started working for Cox Media Group in Athens, Georgia and never left. He’s now the Creative Services Director for their station group. In addition, Steven is UGA’s Grady College of Journalism’s go-to guy when they need an adjunct professor in their advertising department and provides editing and production services under his own business, VoiceUnders.
When I started my VO business, person after person kept telling me, “You’ve GOT to meet Steven Lang,” so I picked up the phone and called him. We’ve been working together ever since.
At first, he started sending me work, then I started sending him work. Steven makes it possible for me to take on complicated long-form narrations and eLearning projects, debreathing my audio and oftentimes cutting it down into individual files.
We have a crazy but functional communication process where I use a dog clicker to indicate the end of a file and snap where I’ve made a mistake for him to fix. These produce tall lines on the file making them easy to identify. I’m thankful no one sees me while I’m recording these things, as I’m sure it looks ridiculous with me at the mic clicking with one hand and snapping with the other.
When he’s not working, being SuperDad and supportive husband, he can be found standing in in a stream casting out flies he’s tied by hand. His passion for fly fishing can be seen all over his social media pages, so if you dig fishing pictures, you should really check him out.
