David Hale

Well-loved Athens artist David Hale’s canvases include skin, skateboards, panels, album covers and…walls.

To celebrate the AthFest Music & Arts Festival’s 20th year, organizers from AthFest Educates commissioned Hale and The Lindon House Arts Center to create a mural working with area youth. The three local high school students Kalib, Kiran and Mara, along with other students at the arts center assisted with the creation.

BirdSong, featuring twenty intricate and breathtaking birds (one for each year of the festival) lives on the wall of retailer with a heart, Philanthropy, at the corner of Washington and Pulaski streets. It borders the parking lot of fun game bar, The Rook & Pawn.

Hale, owner of Love Hawk, is known all over the world for his intricate, nature and spiritually inspired designs on tattoos, panels, skateboards, murals and more. He has a history with both the location and AthFest. Before BirdSong, another of his murals once lived on that same wall, and he was the featured artist for the 2013 AthFest.

Roam & Ramble was inspired by my Jeep Wrangler I absolutely love to drive. As I roam past various curiosities on my journeys, I often wonder about them and decided to make a game of taking a shot that has to feature some part of my Jeep and then ramble on a bit about whatever it is that has me wondering. #MyJeepStory #‎KB4Jeep

Greshamville Mall

Ever since my parents moved to the area in the late 80s, I’ve known about the Greshamville Mall. While I never once went inside, the place fascinated me. I’d drive past on my way back to classes at UGA a little afraid to stop in since it didn’t look real welcoming at...

Zombie House

Welcome to the Zombie House. Why do we call it the Zombie House? Look closer if you dare, just to the left of the front door. When we first moved to Athens and I would drive to voice in Atlanta via a lovely route of country backroads, I noticed the curtain by the door...

Jittery Joes

Who needs rain drops on roses or whiskers on kittens? Two of my favorite things are my Jeep and Jittery Joes. What's so great about Jittery Joe's? Well, in my opinion, not only do they make great-tasting coffee, I love that they're local, their story and the way they...

R.E.M. Steeple

Tucked away just off Oconee St. in Athens, Georgia, this lonely looking steeple is all that remains of the site where R.E.M. played their first show on April 5, 1980. A friend of mine, who used to play in different band with Mike Mills, tells a story about helping...
